At the same time, let's take a glance back at 2007 and catch up on the highlights of last year: VOTED #1 GOLF COURSE IN WALDO COUNTY FOR 2007 Many thanks again to all of you who cast your votes for Searsport Pines Golf Course which resulted in this course being voted the #1 golf course in Waldo County. The "Best of the Best" contest was sponsored by the Citizen-Times/Village Soup newspaper. The contest was held over a three week period of time with the paper's readers voting for their favorite local business in each of the numerous categories. It is an award that will be treasured by all here at Searsport Pines and speaks volumes for all those who work so hard at making this course "The Best of the Best". Congratulations to Coach Tupper and all the players on their successful season! Tournaments: Several tournaments were held at Searsport Pines in 2007. Many thanks to the tournament directors, players and volunteers who all made their particular tournament a successful and fun event. Among the tournaments hosted here were: Maine State Golf Association; Women's Health Initiative; Hospice; Searsport Rotary Club (Joan Probert Memorial); Women's Maine State Golf Association; Member/Guest Tournament; SDHS Alumni; Shrine Club (Dryden Dutch Memorial); Penobscot Marine Museum Fore Education. We look forward to seeing many of you again in 2008 as several of the tournaments have already re-booked for next season. A 2008 Tournament Schedule will be posted when finalized. There will be no Saturday tournaments in July or August (other than our Member/Guest Tournament in August). Leagues/Groups: Again in the upcoming season, there will be various groups and leagues playing on scheduled days. All golfers are welcome to play in any of these different groups. Sunday Couple's League - meeting every Sunday afternoon. It the past it has been at 3:00 p.m. There have been suggestions that the group start a little later, possibly at 4:00 p.m. to allow people to attend their regular family/friend gatherings and still be able to play their round of golf later in the day. All couples welcome on any given Sunday with no sign up obligation or weekly commitment. You do not need to be a member to play. It's a fun way to meet new people as well as see your friends on a regular basis. Different formats will be played each week. More details will be available as the season draws near. Monday Skins - 5:00 p.m. This group gained popularity as each week progressed. Come check why this night has become a weekly routine with many golfers. Again, no weekly commitment - just show up. All players welcome. Thursday - Tozier's Market Scramble comes to life in the late afternoon every Thursday. Always a good time (rain or shine) for all. It's a great group of golfers that welcome new players. Check it out! Friday - Men's 50+ League starting at 9:00 a.m. No weekly commitment; you just need to be here ready to play at that time. THE GRILLE @ Searsport Pines The Grille will be open again serving all your favorite foods and beverages at reasonable prices. Overlooking the picturesque 9th hole which displays a water fountain, it's a great spot to relax after your round of golf and watch as the other players come through. (four out of the five hole-in-ones were made on the 9th hole in 2007) | |
